Age Care Lunch for Costa del Sol Pensioners

The Hotel Tamisa Golf situated in Mijas Costa was the venue for a special Christmas lunch for a group of elderly pensioners provided by Age Care Association. The guests, some of whom are housebound and frail and those who are struggling to care for a disabled partner, were transported to the hotel by Age Care Association volunteers.

On arrival at the hotel the guests were offered a drink and then enjoyed a rendition of carols by the Costa Chordbusters. Once in the dining room the President, Charles Betty, welcomed the guests and volunteers, and our special guest Steve Jones, the British Consul, and wished everyone a Merry Christmas. Then Steve Jones thanked all the volunteers and went on to explain how Age Care Association helps the staff at the Consulate often sorting out problems in cases where the Consulate are unable to act.

A three-course lunch accompanied by wine was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone; this was followed by more carols from the Costa Chordbusters who entertained us all with a special version of the Twelve Days of Christmas written especially for Age Care. After lunch Santa arrived with his presents and then Santa’s little helpers, one of whom was Steve Jones, went around the room giving presents to all the pensioners. For many of those at the lunch this was the only special meal they will get this Christmas.

Age Care Association would like to thank all the various clubs and associations who support the organisation, and a special “thank you” to John Peach of the Hotel Tamisa Golf; and would like to wish them all a Prosperous New Year.

About Age Care Association

Age Care Association is a fully registered, non-profit making organisation staffed entirely by volunteers. Our Spanish registration number is 6282 – CIF – G92487602 (Registro de Asociaciones de Andalucia). The majority of our work is helping older British people living in the Province of Malaga, but we do not exclude other nationalities that speak English. We provide welfare information, practical support and two help lines (Telephones: 691761088, and 655903182). The Association also has a hospital and home visiting team. Other volunteers visit people in Care Homes when necessary. As part of our work we have repatriated some individuals to the UK, where there are more caring facilities and access to benefits unavailable in Spain. Some of our volunteers have had careers in nursing, education, psychology and other caring professions and are accustomed to listening in a sympathetic and kind manner. We work closely with the British Consulate, Royal British Legion, and branches of the International Lions.
