How does Age Care Association help Residents?

This is a question that many people ask, and here are a few examples of how we are able to offer help and assistance, these cases have all occurred since the beginning of June.

A lady recently collapsed in her house and John and Pat contacted the police and emergency services to gain entry as no-one had access to her keys. She was transported to hospital where she is now receiving treatment. Meanwhile, Lesley and Pat have cleaned out her apartment ready for her return; they have also informed her family in the UK. Jennifer has been looking after a lady whose husband recently died; she is very lonely at present especially after the family returned to UK, so Jennifer is providing love and support during this difficult time. James looked after a Cudeca patient whilst Don and Lesley drove his wife to hospital for breast screening. Several of our volunteers arranged rotas to transport a patient who needed a week-long treatment at Clinico Hospital in Malaga. Another volunteer, Arno, drove to hospital in Malaga early one morning to help deal with a problem which suddenly arose. Later the patient was able to text a message to our welfare co-ordinator which read “Thanks so much for sending Arno this morning, he is a credit to you”.

Age Care Association also helps with multiple visits for treatment to all the major hospitals. We provide, deliver and collect motability equipment when needed, offer various types of counselling and make nursing assessments. The Association also visits housebound people as well as people who are alone in hospital or care homes. We also help to arrange shopping and cleaning for people who are unable to do so for themselves.

If you think you could be of help please contact our helpline. Another way in which you can support Age Care Association is through our fundraising events. The next event will be the Change A Life Ball on Saturday 5th September at the Hotel Tamisa Golf, Mijas Costa. For tickets for this event please contact 952 492250. A fundraising lunch will be held on Thursday 8th October in Cristal at Costamar Restaurant, Benalmádena where a grand draw will take place.

About Age Care Association

Age Care Association is a fully registered, non-profit making organisation staffed entirely by volunteers. Our Spanish registration number is 6282 – CIF – G92487602 (Registro de Asociaciones de Andalucia). The majority of our work is helping older British people living in the Province of Malaga, but we do not exclude other nationalities that speak English. We provide welfare information, practical support and two help lines (Telephones: 691761088, and 655903182). The Association also has a hospital and home visiting team. Other volunteers visit people in Care Homes when necessary. As part of our work we have repatriated some individuals to the UK, where there are more caring facilities and access to benefits unavailable in Spain. Some of our volunteers have had careers in nursing, education, psychology and other caring professions and are accustomed to listening in a sympathetic and kind manner. We work closely with the British Consulate, Royal British Legion, and branches of the International Lions.
