A British holidaymaker travelling alone fell and broke her ankle. Age Care were contacted and moved her belongings out of the hotel room, stored them until she was able to leave hospital and then arranged a room in a hotel where help was provided and continued to look after her until her return to England. An elderly man living on the coast was helped with visits to clinics and hospitals for four weeks whilst undergoing treatment on his back. One of our nurses is helping a couple where the wife is not well and needs help in caring for her husband by visiting every day to help wash and shave him, etc. One of our volunteer translators has been visiting a lady in hospital following a leg amputation, to help with any problems which arise whilst in hospital.
Some of our volunteers visit lonely, housebound people on a regular basis; others relieve carers so that they can go out and have a break.
Age Care Association also have a drop-in centre at the Manila Bar, Paseo, Los Boliches which is open every Wednesday from 10 – 12.30. The Carer’s Group meets on the second Monday of each month in the Church Hall at Calahonda.
